This year I decided to dabble into a new part of sewing with pants. I choose the Simplicity’s #1371 pattern for a high-wasted, straight pant and a halter top. The halter top contains a strap that connects in the back with buttons and two more straps coming from the back of the garment. The crop top contains a key-hole below the chest and right above a front band. The pants are high-wasted with a waste band. The front of the straight-legged pants embraces pockets with edge-stitching and two pleats. The back of the pants have two darts. This two piece garment allows my love for the color blue to show in a fashionable way. Besides finding your pattern or making one, another big part of your garment is what it is made out of. The garment contains three fabrics; these fabrics include a blue linen with slubs, white posh lining, and a white lace. The blue linen is made of 70% Polyester and 30% Rayon. The white posh lining and the white lace are both made out of 100% Polyester. The garment also contains two invisible white zippers and two 3/8” white buttons. All with the help of a few tools all these items became wearable. A few basic tools I used are measuring tape, pins, needle and thread, fabric shears, notion scissors, chalk, and a home sewing machine. Other things I used where the overlock machine for the seam finish. A zipper foot for the invisible zipper, which went on the left side of both the shirt and pant. A button foot for the buttons along with the one step function on the machine and a slip-stitch for the keyhole button. I used the slip-stitch for the inside of my lining as well. Also, I used under-stitching to keep the lining towards the back. For the hem I used a machine stitch, double turned and stitched. Likewise, I used top-stitching for the band of the halter top and an edge-stitching for the pockets. Altogether, my garment has many parts and loose ends to create a wonderful two piece garment.
