FCCLA: Recycle and Redesign

Angelina Richardson

This was my second time attending the State Leadership Conference, so I wanted to do something different and hopefully end up with a gold and a trip to Nationals. I love to concept of fashion with something behind it, something more than just a pretty outfit. I choose Recycle and Redesign, it let me express my love for the world and fashion, a two for one.

Stop Buying, Try Designing was the slogan for this project. Did you know we throw away 13.1 Million tons of textiles a year. We like to throw away everything, but there are thrift shops that will take clothes to the ones in need if they do not sell them. You could also recreate things that chill in your closet, this is what I did for this project. I took my mom's old blazer to create a cowl neck, sleeveless, cropped top. Incorporating the fake leather, I added triangle Details into the shirt. Then, I used an old leather jacket that had a hole in it for a tight skirt, with multiple darts and the crepe fabric from the blazer as the waist band. On the leather skirt, I added metallic gold roses that I had drew on. The roses were inspired by Alexander McQueen's iconic look, leathers suits and painted flowers. Personally, I thought it was the perfect way to incorporate a meaning of beautiful land instead of rotten landfills.

However, I somehow pulled this project together after many stressful nights and restless mornings. In the project, I had to included a time log, planning process, cost itemization, picture story, and swatches. All together, redoing the project a few times and replacing my information with improvements, the first place gold medal and a trip to California makes everything worth it.
