Goddesses As You Percieve

Angelina Richardson

Here I display a project based on Euripides. I took the character Aphrodite and loosely based my garnet off of her. She is a strong yet agile goddess. She will shut down anyone who wronged her or felt the need to show her the door. Aphrodite is different than we perceive of a goddess. We see goddess as light on their toes, airy creatures. So I took both ideas and combined them.

I took a structures denim for how she is in the play. Then incorporated no sleeves, a high structured neckline and sharp triangles into the piece. I choose the same fabric as the stripes because there are some characteristics of Aphrodite that we still see her as a goddess. Also, with the stripes held up by stitches on her waist, inside there is denim. I felt it was important to have both fabrics on both sides to catch the idea previously stated. I took a black and brown with a blue solid stripe for a a pretty drape for flattering the body type. Plus goddess are usually gold, but I wanted a more modern version of a goddess today. Overall, draping my first garment was an interesting experiment that I will later find out better ways to execute.
